Record-Breaking Visitor Numbers
In the first four months of 2025, Vietnam welcomed over 7.67 million international tourists—a 23.8% increase compared to the same period in 2024. This momentum positions Vietnam to exceed its annual goal of 22–23 million international visitors, reaffirming its growing reputation as a global tourism hotspot.
Major Infrastructure Developments
Significant investments are underway to support the tourism boom. Phu Quoc International Airport is undergoing a $1.5 billion expansion, which includes the construction of a phoenix-shaped terminal designed by Singapore-based CPG Airport Consultants. Once completed, the airport will handle up to 18 million passengers annually by 2030 and 50 million by 2050.
The Vietnamese government also aims to complete 1,188 kilometers of expressways by the end of 2025, bringing the national expressway network to a total of 3,000 kilometers. This enhanced connectivity will improve access to inland and coastal regions, encouraging further tourism and investment.
Policy Reforms and Visa Facilitation
To attract more international travelers, Vietnam has introduced several key policy reforms. Notably, a visa exemption program for citizens of Poland, the Czech Republic, and Switzerland is in effect from March 1 to December 31, 2025, allowing visa-free stays of up to 45 days.
Additionally, a proposed 10-year "golden visa" program aims to attract long-term tourists, skilled professionals, and foreign investors, especially from India. This initiative is expected to strengthen Vietnam’s tourism sector and support its long-term economic growth.
Diversifying Source Markets
Vietnam continues to broaden its tourism appeal. China remains the largest source market, with nearly one million visitors in early 2025. South Korea and Taiwan follow closely, while India has emerged as a key market, with over 90,000 Indian tourists arriving in the first quarter alone. This diversification reflects Vietnam’s expanding reach in Asia and beyond.
New Airline Ventures
To meet growing travel demand, Vietnam’s Prime Minister has approved the establishment of Sun Phu Quoc Airways, a new airline backed by Sun Group. With an initial investment of $96 million, the carrier is expected to launch in Q4 2025, offering both commercial and charter flights. Its fleet is projected to grow to 31 aircraft by 2030, improving domestic and international air connectivity.
Major Cultural and Sporting Events
Vietnam is also leveraging global events to boost tourism. The 2025 AVC Women’s Volleyball Nations Cup will be hosted in Hanoi from June 7 to 14, drawing teams from across Asia.
Meanwhile, Nha Trang will host Miss Cosmo Vietnam 2025 on June 21, featuring a spectacular carnival-themed costume show and street parade celebrating creativity and cultural diversity.
Commitment to Sustainable Tourism
Amid rapid growth, Vietnam remains committed to environmental conservation and sustainable tourism. Coral reefs near Nha Trang—under threat from climate change and tourism—are now under protection. Local authorities have temporarily suspended tourism in vulnerable areas and introduced new marine protected zones to preserve biodiversity and ensure long-term ecological balance.
With its dynamic developments, progressive policies, and sustainability initiatives, Vietnam continues to rise as a leading destination for global travelers seeking both excitement and authenticity.
